NSW BDM transcriptions on sale Christmas2022

NSW transcription agents, Joy Murrin and Marilyn Rowan, have reduced the cost of full transcriptions of births, deaths & marriages, at present.

Transcriptions will cost $18 instead of the usual $20. Marilyn's special applies until midnight on 2 January 2023. It is unclear how long Joy's special lasts.

The Guild of One Name Studies recently hosted a webinar on the 1939 National Register of England and Wales. The speaker was John Hanson.

The webinar is available for viewing by non-Guild members until 31 December 2022. Thereafter, it will only be available to Guild members.

1921 Census of England & Wales - now available as part of a FindMyPast subscription

The 1921 Census of England and Wales is now available as part of a FindMyPast subscription.

A new subscription (Premium) has been created which will now include unlimited access to the 1921 Census.

The existing pay-per-view access to the 1921 Census for subscribers of other levels will continue as is.

Parramatta Female Factory - It's A Riot Day 2022, 28 October 2022

Each year, the Parramatta Female Factory Friends celebrate and commemorate the life and times of the female convicts, with an It's A Riot Day. This year the It's A Riot Day will be held on Friday, 28 October, at the Parramatta Female Factory.

There are several events on the day - a flower laying ceremony, two tours of the Female Factory and a lecture. To book to attend an event, go here.

GSQ seminar 24 September 2022 - change of presenter

Yesterday's Trails August 2022 included an item about an upcoming seminar (Life in Victorian Britain) to be hosted by the Genealogical Society of Queensland (GSQ) on 24 September 2022.

We have received word that one of the presenters has changed, due to unforeseen circumstances. Because of the change in presenters, the GSQ has extended the cut-off for purchase of tickets at early bird prices until 10 September 2022.

German family history webinar - 2 August 2022

In celebration of Family History Month 2022, the National Archives of Australia and the State Library of Queensland are presenting a free webinar focusing on German family history.

Familienforschung: Researching your German family history will explore the common challenges when researching German genealogy and will uncover valuable resources offered by each organisation to assist researchers to find their German ancestors. The webinar will highlight records relevant to Queensland.

Free access to British Newspapers through FindMyPast

 Chris Paton's Scottish Genes blog has posted the following:

FindmyPast (www.findmypast.co.uk) is offering free access to its newspaper collections from May 30th until June 6th.  You will need to register for a free account to use the collection.

Note that the search screen on FindmyPast's newspaper collections is not great - you may have more luck searching first on the British Newspaper Archive at www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk, and if you find something, then try to locate it on FindmyPast. (The sites hold largely the same records.)
